Hello, I'm Mrs. Witherspoon, school counselor to K-1st grade students here at Nathaniel Alexander. I have served children and families in various roles over my work career. I like to think of the work that I do as a calling because I am passionate about children and supporting their needs. I have earned a bachelors degree from North Carolina Central University in Psychology, Masters degree in Christian Leadership from Liberty University, Masters Degree in Education with a major in School Counseling from The University of the Southwest. I have also served as a director of a mental health agency serving children 3-17, and director of a 21st Century Community Learning Center. As a school counselor, I support children's social and emotional learning by conducting a student need assessment, supporting their classroom teachers, teaching a classroom guidance lesson, collaborating with co-counselors to provide school assembly guidance lessons, making home visits when needed, and working with parents to locate community resources. |
